Where We Came From

1920
Arthur Kahlow, Sr. founds the Peerless Traveling Goods Company, which manufactures luggage featuring a patented steel frame.
1928
James Dorst converts the company into a metal-stamping operation and produces parts for the automotive industry, as well as for the steamer trunks produced by Peerless Traveling Goods.
1958
Dorst Metalcraft purchases the assets of Peerless Traveling Goods.
1974
The company changes its name to Metalcraft of Mayville (MOM). Rapid growth leads to major plant expansions.
1985
Metalcraft is awarded its first contract for HUMVEE military parts, the first of many military awards to come in the following decades.
1998
MOM achieves QS-9000 certification, reflecting its dedication to being a high-quality supplier to their valued customers.
2006
MOM achieves ISO 9000 accreditation, signifying their commitment to a quality management system.
2010
MOM earns the prestigious Bronze Certification from Caterpillar.
2013
The Mayville plant benefits from the purchase of one of the largest robotic-welding units manufactured by Genesis Systems.
2016
MOM is presented with the Statement of Support Award in recognition of its support for the National Guard and Reserve.
2018
MOM acquires FJR Manufacturing
2021
MOM acquires Robbins Manufacturing Inc. of Fall River
1926
James and Arthur Dorst found the J. Dorst Company, a die-sinking business.
World War II
The J. Dorst Company, engaged in defense work on a subcontract basis, adds 4,000 square feet to the factory and changes its name to Dorst Metalcraft, Inc.
1973
Dorst Metalcraft is purchased by Edwin A. “Ned” Gallun, Jr., and within a year, a new 63,000-square-foot plant is built on 30 acres of land at the corner of Slag Road and Highway V.
1983
MOM contracts to build commercial-grade lawn mowers for newly formed Scag Power Equipment.
1986
MOM purchases Scag Power Equipment.
2002
MOM implements Six Sigma quality system, along with lean manufacturing, as growth continues.
2008
A new generation of leadership emerges as Martin Gallun becomes CEO of MOM, continuing his father’s vision.
2012
The company adds a 5,600-square-foot Tech Center to provide custom prototyping services and unique solutions.
2014
MOM earns Partner-Level status, the highest supplier rating in John Deere’s Achieving Excellence Program.
2017
MOM acquires Venture Manufacturing of Beaver Dam.
2019
MOM acquires Gamache Systems and Versatran Inc.
Present
Metalcraft’s four ISO 9001:2015-registered facilities employ over 1,000 factory and office personnel and offer over 1,000,000 square feet of manufacturing space.

Scag Racing

Scag Racing fields a multi-car team in the NHRA (National Hot Rod Association) as a platform to reach and impact many people. Scag dealers, Scag distributors, and Scag equipment owners and users have all embraced the NHRA experience and enjoy the events and activities immensely.
